Cornell Notes Template

The Cornell note-taking system splits each page into three parts: a narrow cue column on the left, a wide notes area on the right and a summary box at the bottom. You take notes in class on the right, add questions and keywords on the left afterwards, and sum up the page in a few sentences at the bottom.

This template uses the classic proportions — a 2.5 inch cue column and a 2 inch summary area — with college ruled lines (9/32 inch). Switch to 11/32 inch for wide ruled, or to A4 paper.

How do you use Cornell notes?

During class, write notes in the large right-hand column. Within a day, write questions or keywords in the left column next to each part. Then write a short summary at the bottom. To review, cover the right side and answer the questions on the left.

What line spacing should I choose?

College ruled (9/32 inch, about 7 mm) fits more text and suits high school and university. Wide ruled (11/32 inch, about 8.7 mm) is easier for younger students.

Can I add my name to the page?

Yes. Tick "Name & date header" to add Name and Date lines above the Topic line.
